National Preach-In on Global Warming

/

February 8-10, 2013

Organized by Interfaith Power & Light

It’s time for the 2013 National Preach-In on Global Warming, Interfaith Power & Light’s biggest event of the year. On the weekend before Valentine’s Day, thousands of clergy, lay leaders, and other people of faith will speak of their abiding love for God’s Creation. Sign up now to join us, and to download all the materials you need to make your event a success.

Our cause is more urgent than ever. At his first news conference after re-election, President Obama said, “I am a firm believer that climate change is real, that it is impacted by human behavior and carbon emissions. And as a consequence, I think we’ve got an obligation to future generations to do something about it.” So Preach-In participants will have the opportunity to send postcards asking President Obama to honor this pledge.

The 2013 Preach-In will also focus on how climate disruption is affecting people worldwide, from East Coast residents battered by Superstorm Sandy to Midwestern farmers besieged by drought to people on the island of Kirabati whose homeland is literally sinking into the Pacific Ocean due to rising seas. The feature film is The Hungry Tide, an award-winning 53-minute documentary showing how people in Kirabati are coping as global warming changes a way of life they’ve known for thousands of years. Sign up now for DVD, Valentine postcards to President Obama, and other resources that will help your congregation take a stand for vulnerable people at home and abroad.

As you can see, the new Preach-In website is more interactive than ever. You can list your events on a map, and see what others are doing.

So sign up and order your materials now. As the Preach-In gets closer, we’ll send you reminders as well as links to free resources to help you prepare sermons, reflections, devotionals, discussions, children’s activities, and more. We look forward to your involvement in the 2013 National Preach-In on Global Warming.

And if you are unable to participate in the February 8-10 national event, plan your own Preach-In on a weekend that makes sense for your congregation.
